Dashboard

When you log into Canvas, the Dashboard is the first page that displays. On your Dashboard, you can find information about recent activity in your Canvas course sites and navigate to your favorite sites.

View your Dashboard.

By default, your Dashboard displays in Card View. This view includes:

  1. Cards for up to 20 of your favorite courses.  Each card displays the following information under a course image or colored box:
    • The name of the course, e.g., 23Su History of Online Media,
    • The course code, e.g., CIS 1032-001,
    • The term for the course, e.g., 2023 Summer,
    • And icons linked to course tools with recent activity in them. For example, if an announcement was recently posted in a course, a bullhorn icon will display on the course card that you can select to navigate directly to the course's Announcements tool.
  2. A To Do list. For instructors, the list displays assignments that are ready to grade. For students, the list displays assignments and activities they need to complete that have upcoming due dates, as well as items with past due dates which are available to submit late. Students can also add items to their own To Do lists. For steps, see How do I add a to-do item in the Calendar as a student? (opens new window).

Note: Announcements posted for all instructors and/or students in a particular school or department may also appear at the top of your Dashboard above the course cards.

Customize the course cards on your Dashboard.

You can select the cards that are displayed on your Dashboard by adding course sites as favorites. This will allow you to select your desired sites for easy access. For steps see:

Tip: Keep your favorites to 20 or fewer sites to ensure that your desired sites always display.
