How do I log into UVACanvas Connect with a non- "@virginia.edu" email address?
UVACanvas Connect is a learning management system and course registration platform at the University of Virginia (UVA) to host professional development courses and trainings for both the UVA community as well as the extended community. If you have an account in UVACanvas Connect with an email address that does not end in @virginia.edu, this article will assist you with logging in.
If you have not yet set up your account or you are unsure, contact the program administrator or instructor for the course. If you do not know who the direct contact is, email the UVA Learning Technology Services (LTS) team at [email protected].
Important:
- People with @uvahealth.org email addresses: Many UVA Health members have both a @uvahealth.org and a @virginia.edu email address with an active account in UVACanvas (opens in new window), UVA's academic instance of Canvas. If you have both, you should always be enrolled in UVACanvas Connect courses with your UVA Computing ID and not your full @uvahealth.org email address.
- Please note that many UVA Health members have active UVACanvas accounts but may not be aware that they do. If you need changes made to your enrollment, or need to check if you have a UVACanvas account or not, contact your course's support contact. If you are unsure who to contact, reach out to the UVA LTS team at [email protected].
- People with UVA Computing IDs: If you have an active UVA Computing ID and account in UVACanvas, this article does not apply. To access your UVACanvas Connect course(s) follow the steps in: How do I access a UVACanvas Connect course I was added to with my UVA Computing ID?
Navigate to the UVACanvas Connect Guest User Login Page.
Navigate to UVACanvas Connect with a web browser by visiting the Guest User (Other) Login page. On a mobile device, you can access this page through the Canvas App (opens in new window) by searching for and selecting University of Virginia Connect.
Log into UVACanvas Connect.
- Enter the email address associated with your account in the Login field.
- Enter your password in the Password field.
- Select the Log In button.
Tip: If you forgot your password, you can select the Forgot Password link on the page to send a password reset link to the email address associated with your UVACanvas Connect account. If you are still having trouble with resetting your password, contact the program administrator or instructor for the course. If you do not know who the direct contact is, email the UVA Learning Technology Services (LTS) team at [email protected]
Complete Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA).
Note: If you need assistance with MFA configuration, reach out to your direct contact for the program hosting your course. If you are unsure who that is, contact the UVA Learning Technology Services (LTS) team at [email protected]
If you already have a UVACanvas Connect account, and this is your second time logging in, you will be required to set up Multi-Factor Authentication. You aren't asked to set up your MFA when you first create your account. Follow the steps in How do I configure Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for my non-UVA Connect account? Then, return to this article as needed.
If you have already configured your MFA, you will be asked for a Verification Code. Follow the prompts to authenticate your identity.
Follow the steps below to find your verification code (passcode) in the Duo Mobile app.
Open the Duo Mobile app on your mobile device.
Select the entry for your UVACanvas Connect account.
In Duo Mobile on your mobile device, select the Account name for your UVACanvas Connect account. The default name is "University of Virginia Connect Canvas - login ID," where the login ID is your username/email address. However, this can be customized.
Enter the Passcode from Duo Mobile into the Verification Code field.
- Enter the six-digit Passcode from the Duo Mobile app into the Verification Code field on the Canvas web page.
- Select Verify.
You will be asked to enter a verification code sent to you via SMS text to your mobile device to complete the login process.
Check your text messages.
Check your text messages on your device to retrieve the numeric code.
Enter the Verification Code.
- Enter the numeric code into the Verification Code field that appeared in the text message you receive on your mobile device. In the screenshot above, the example numeric code is 659556, but your code will be different.
- Select Verify.
Access your UVACanvas Connect Dashboard.
When you are successfully logged in, your Dashboard will appear.
