What options are available for video-based discussions other than Flip?

Due to Microsoft's recent decision to remove the Flip integration from Canvas, it is strongly recommended instructors use an alternative integrated tool for these types of activities and assignments. The suggested options include Discussions (using Canvas Studio or Kaltura My Media/Media Gallery) and VoiceThread.

For more information about the Flip transition, please refer to our Flip Transition & Sunsetting document (opens new window). To view this document you must be signed into your UVA Microsoft account.

Note: The Canvas Discussions tool will load all responses on one page. With video-based discussions, this can create a heavy load burden on the browser. In some instances, discussions with many posted videos will cause the page to time out and prevent students from reviewing/responding to posts.

If you are using Canvas Discussions, no more than 10 videos should be embedded in a single discussion topic, to reduce the risk of students experiencing loading or playback issues.
