Review content migrated from the Blackboard Content section.
Content blocks, files and folders from the Content Collection tool in Blackboard can be found in the Files tool in Canvas. Web links, text and links to external tools within your Content blocks can be found in Modules listed in sequence with your other content.
Tip: You can use the information in this article as you work through Step 1: Review in the Checklist for Reusing Content from Blackboard. Go back to the checklist for additional steps.
Find files and folders in the Files tool.
Go to Files.
Select Files from the Course Navigation Menu.
View files.
You will see any files and sub-folders as they were organized in Blackboard Content Collection.
To compare them to Blackboard, view the Content Collection tool from your course. Those assets will also display in Modules if they were added as Content Blocks in the Content Links defined in the left navigation of your course in Blackboard.
Note: If a folder in Blackboard was empty, it did not migrate to Canvas.
Find web links and item descriptions in the Modules tool.
If you added a web link or a description as a Content Block in any Content links in Blackboard, the information can be found in pages linked in Modules.
Go to Modules.
Select Modules from the Course Navigation Menu.
Compare the Blackboard menu to Canvas Modules.
The Modules in Canvas correlate to the different Content Links available in your left menu in Blackboard.
Modules can be expanded and collapsed to display the contents copied from Blackboard. The example above shows the modules collapsed. Expand each module to review the content within.
Because of technical differences between Blackboard and Canvas, your copied content may be in a different format than you are accustomed to. For example, Blackboard allows for sub-folders within a Content Area. There is no sub-folder equivalent in Canvas Modules, so its content will be nested within the top level module.
Examples of Formatting Differences
Sub-folders become headings.
Pictured above is an example of content migrated to Canvas Modules.
- Course Content is the Module name and correlates to the left-hand menu Content Link in Blackboard.
- August 20th Class is the name of a Blackboard sub-folder added as a Content Area within Course Content. All of the migrated content from that block is nested below a text heading of August 20th Class in Canvas.
- August 30th Class is the name of a Blackboard sub-folder added as a Content Area within Course Content. In the migrated Canvas site, there is an August 30th Class text heading with content links indented under this heading.
- August 30th Resources is the name of a Blackboard sub-folder added as a Content Area within August 30th Class. In the migrated Canvas site, there is an August 30th Resources heading nested under August 30th Class.
- Content from a Blackboard sub-folder is nested beneath each matching text heading. For example, the links August 30th - Intro Slides and PDF Transcript of Intro Slides are indented under the heading August 30th Resources.
Description text can be found on pages.
If you entered description text in Blackboard for a link, header, video, assignment or folder, the content migrates as an individual page within the module with the text included. The actual content will display on the next page.
