How can I use a transcript in the legacy My Media or Media Gallery player?
Captioned media files embedded in Canvas course sites from My Media or Media Gallery (Kaltura) may have transcripts available, if the person who added the media selected to embed a player with a transcript.
When a transcript is available, you can jump to a certain time in a video or audio file by searching for and selecting text in the transcript. This can help you quickly navigate to a point of interest.
You can also download and print the transcript. A transcript can be an excellent study aid, particularly if you prefer to learn by reading.
This article includes steps to use the transcript in the legacy media player. If you are accessing a file in My Media or Media Gallery, or if the description of the player in the steps below does not match the player embedded in your course, refer to one of the following articles:

Note:
- Content owners can add closed captions by following the steps in How do I request to add captions to a file in My Media? (opens new window).
- Video quizzes do not display a transcript. A video quiz will pause automatically at each question that students must answer and may not allow skipping. For more information, see What is a video quiz, and how can I use it? (opens new window).
Access the media file in your course site.
Navigate to the page where the video or audio file is embedded. Media can be embedded in many tools in Canvas, including Pages, Modules, Assignments, Discussions, and Quizzes.
Select Show transcript.
Select the Show transcript link under the media player.
Enter text in Search field.
Enter text in the Search field to highlight certain words or phrases in the transcript.
Navigate with the transcript.
Text in the transcript is linked to specific timestamps in the video or audio file. Select text to skip to the time in the file where its caption appears.
Download the transcript.
You can download a text file (.txt) of the transcript by selecting the Download icon.
Print the transcript.
You can print a copy of the transcript by selecting the Print icon.
