How do I view and edit Qualtrics LTI survey settings in UVACanvas?

The submission and grading options for each survey added to Canvas can be modified through the Qualtrics LTI Navigation survey Settings. These settings are applied once the survey has been added to the course site as an Assignment.

  1. Select Account from your Global Navigation Menu.
  2. Select the Qualtrics LTI link.

Select a survey from the list of Your Surveys.

Locate the desired survey in the Survey name column and select the name to open the survey details and settings.

View Settings.

Each survey has its own Settings that only apply to that specific survey.

  1. Review any messages that appear in red or yellow. These indicate errors or warnings about the survey.
  2. Select the Settings tab.
  3. Review the current selection for Survey grading. More details about these options can be found below.
  4. Review the options for Survey submission. More details about these options can be found below.
  5. Select Save after making any changes.

Survey grading With Canvas submission.

Note: The option Do not count this assignment toward the final grade within the assignment settings can be selected and applied to any survey assignment created within a course site.

To review and make changes to the Survey grading With Canvas submission options:

  1. Select the dropdown menu to reveal the With Canvas submission and No Canvas submission options.
  2. Select With Canvas submission.
  3. Select the resulting action for the grade:
    1. Grade not registered - No points given as this option creates a fully anonymous survey.
    2. Grade is the assignment maximum score - Full points will be given automatically in the gradebook for completing the survey. For example, if the assignment has a points total of 10, the student will receive a 10/10 score. If the assignment is a completion grade, a checkmark will be given.
    3. Grade is the percentage of the Qualtrics score - Points will be given to the student in the gradebook based on the scoring of the survey. This requires the survey contain scored survey questions. Details and steps for scoring a survey can be found at Qualtrics Survey Scoring  (opens new window).

Survey grading No Canvas submission.

To review and make changes to the Survey grading No Canvas submission:

  1. Select the dropdown menu to reveal the With Canvas submission and No Canvas submission options.
  2. Select No Canvas submission.
  3. Select Grade not registered.
    1. The assignment will show up within the course gradebook, but no score or data from the survey will be sent to Canvas.
    2. A manual score can still be entered in the gradebook if desired.
    3. This also removes the Show submission in Canvas SpeedGrader and Show submission to student selections from the Survey submission options described below.

Survey submission options.

To review and make changes to the Survey submission options:

  1. Select the dropdown menu to choose the number of allowable submissions.
    1. Allow multiple submissions - Students can submit the survey multiple times. This option is not recommended for graded surveys.
      1. Note: If the assignment settings for Submission Attempts is set to "Limited," the students will only be able to submit the assignment the number of times identified within the Number of Attempts field in the assignment settings. But due to the Allow multiple submissions option being selected, students will be able to view and submit survey responses multiple times within the assignment window with all of the response data being viewable within Qualtrics.  
    2. Limit to 1 submission - Students can only submit the survey one time (applies to both the Canvas assignment and the Qualtrics survey). It is strongly recommended to use this for graded surveys.
    3. Allow submission update - Students can resubmit the survey with updated responses for each question. This option is not recommended for graded surveys. Only the most recent response data will be retained as previous responses are overwritten.
      1. Note: If the assignment settings for Submission Attempts is set to "Limited," the students will only be able to resubmit the assignment the number of times identified within the Number of Attempts field in the assignment settings. But due to the Allow submission update option being selected, students will be able to update survey responses multiple times within the assignment window with only the most recent response data viewable within Qualtrics.
  2. Select/deselect Enable submission after assignment due date.
    1. Allows students to submit after the due date, but respects (?) the Available until date within the Assignment settings.
  3. Select/deselect Show submission in Canvas SpeedGrader.
    1. Displays the student survey response in SpeedGrader.
  4. Select/deselect Show submission to student.
    1. Displays the student survey response to the student when they open the assignment after submission.

Note: Remember to select Save after making any changes or updates to the survey settings.
