How do I enable and use iRubric for University Assessment?
iRubric is a tool that instructors can use to select and share student work for the purposes of University Assessment.
Note: If your course is from a previous semester, the course site has been concluded (opens new window), and you are unable to complete the steps in this article as a result, please reach out to the Learning Technology Services (LTS) team at [email protected] for assistance. Please include in your email the exact link to the concluded course. You can find the link by visiting the course site in Canvas and copying the link from your browser's address bar.
If your course site has an end date specified, you will need to edit the end date and set it in the future (opens new window).
Open the Canvas course.

Navigate to the Canvas course site where the identified assignment is published.
Tip: If your course does not display on your Dashboard, follow the steps to find it in How do I use the Global Navigation Menu as an instructor? (opens new window).
Select the Navigation tab.

Enable iRubric.

To enable iRubric:
- Scroll down on the page to find the list of tools that are hidden from students.
- Select the three dots (Options) menu.
- Select Enable.
You can also drag and drop iRubric out of the hidden section and into the visible course navigation links above.
Save Navigation

Select the Save button at the bottom of the page.
Enable submission import.

Locate the desired assignment(s) and select the Enable submission import link for each assignment.
View success message.

A green circle checkmark and the message "Submission import enabled" will appear under Import Submissions to confirm the import was successfully enabled.
Repeat the steps in additional course sites, if needed.
Please complete these steps for each course noted in the form you received from Institutional Research and Analytics.
