How can I use content from Media Gallery?

Media Gallery, powered by Kaltura, is a media repository for a Canvas course. A participant in a course can upload a video, audio file, or image to Media Gallery, which publishes the file in the gallery at the same time as uploading it to their own My Media space.

Video, audio, and images in Media Gallery can be shared and embedded throughout UVACanvas and the web. Below is a list of the various ways you can use content uploaded to either Media Gallery or My Media.

If the Media Gallery tool is enabled in the Course Navigation Menu, you can publish media in the Media Gallery tool by following the steps in one of the articles below.

Note: To access the Media Gallery tool in a McIntire School of Commerce course site, select McIntire Kaltura from the Course Navigation Menu instead of Media Gallery.

Set up a video or audio assignment.

You can create an assignment where students use My Media or Media Gallery to record or upload and publish files by following the steps in How do I set up a video or audio assignment using Media Gallery? (opens new window).

Create a video quiz.

You can create a video quiz from a video you recorded or from a YouTube video you added to My Media or Media Gallery. For steps to create a Kaltura video quiz and have its grades sent to the Canvas Gradebook, see:

Share content publicly.

In the Media Gallery of a Canvas site you own, you can enable the Embed Grab option to generate public embed codes. This will allow you copy a video or audio file's embed code for use in websites outside of Canvas (for example, a departmental website or a Catalog listing in UVACanvas Connect). To enable public embed codes for files published in a Media Gallery, follow the steps in How do I copy embed code for public display on the web? (opens new window).
