How do I add a Qualtrics survey to UVACanvas?
Before you can add a Qualtrics survey as a Canvas assignment, it must be added to the Qualtrics LTI in UVACanvas.
Prerequisite Steps
Before proceeding with the steps on this page, you will need to do the following:
- Link your Qualtrics account to UVACanvas by following the steps in How do I connect my Qualtrics account to UVACanvas? (opens new window).
- Create the survey(s) within Qualtrics. You can find information about creating surveys in the Survey Basic Overview (opens new window).
Access the Qualtrics LTI link in your Account menu.
- Select Account from your Global Navigation Menu.
- Select the Qualtrics LTI link.

Select Add survey.
Along the right-hand side of the screen, select the + Add survey button.
Select Standard Canvas assignment.
Find desired survey and review the Status in Qualtrics.
Your available surveys will be shown in a table with the following:
- A Search surveys field to quickly locate a survey by name.
- The Name of each survey in alphabetical order.
- The survey's Status in Qualtrics, either active or closed.
Note: The Status in Qualtrics must be active or the survey will not be available to students. Each survey status must be changed within Qualtrics. Select the Edit (square with an arrow) icon to navigate to the Qualtrics webpage and update the status.
Add desired survey.
Once you have located the desired survey:
- Select the name of the survey.
- Select the Add survey button in the lower right-hand side.
Note: Only one survey can be selected at a time. You will need to repeat the steps above for each additional survey you would like to add.
Select Personal surveys.
You will be taken to a page displaying the settings for your survey. You can edit these settings later. Details about survey settings can be found at How do I view and edit Qualtrics LTI survey settings in UVACanvas? (opens new window).
To go to the list of surveys that have been added to the Qualtrics LTI, select Personal surveys button near the top of the page.
View added surveys.
The Qualtrics LTI home page will display surveys that have been successfully added in a table in alphabetical order. For details, see the help article Qualtrics LTI Navigation (opens new window).
Student access.
