How do I embed a file from My Media in WordPress?
The WordPress tool integrated into UVACanvas has a plugin that allows you to embed a video or audio file from My Media (Kaltura) in a WordPress post or page.
Note: The WordPress plugin does not support embedding images that were uploaded to My Media.
Prerequisite Steps
Before proceeding with the steps on this page, you will need to do the following:
- Be able to access the WordPress tool in your Canvas course site. Instructors can add the tool to their course by following the steps in How do I manage Course Navigation links? (opens new window) and choosing to Enable WordPress.
- Upload the video or audio file you want to embed to My Media in UVACanvas. For steps, see one of the following help articles:
- How do I upload a video, audio file, or image to My Media or Media Gallery? (opens new window)

Add a Gallery block.
- Place your cursor in the area of the page where you can Type / to choose a block.
- An Add Block (+) button will appear. Select this button.
- Search for Gallery.

Select Media Library.

Note: If your internet browser window is narrow, you may need to select a Menu link to access the Browse Existing Media option.
Select the file to embed.
Select the video or audio file to embed by clicking on its thumbnail image or the Insert into post button under the thumbnail. The Insert into post button looks like a green plus (+) sign in a circle.
Select Insert into Post.
Player size options and a preview of the file to embed will be displayed. The default Responsive size is recommended so the width and height of the media player will automatically adjust based on the size of the viewer's browser window.
Select the Insert into Post link underneath the media player.
Copy the player code.
A message will display indicating that the player code could not be inserted into the editor. Select the code provided on this page and copy it to your computer clipboard by typing Ctrl + C (in Windows) or Command + C (on a Mac).
Close the dialog window.
Select the X (Close Dialog) button in the upper-right corner of the Browse Existing Media window to close it.
Note: A Close button also appears at the bottom of the dialog window, but unfortunately it will not work.
Paste the player code.
Place your cursor in the area of the page where you can Type / to choose a block and paste the player code you copied by typing Ctrl + V (in Windows) or Command + V (on a Mac). The pasted text will display within a Shortcode block.
Remove the Gallery block.
Select the empty Gallery block and press Delete on your keyboard to remove it.
Publish the post or page.
After adding other blocks of content as needed, select the Publish button to publish your post or page.
Confirm publishing.
- You will be asked to double-check your publication settings. Review and edit the settings as needed.
- Select Publish to confirm.
Select the View button.
To navigate to your newly-published content, select the View Post or View Page button. The text of the button will depend on whether you have added a post or a page.
Play the embedded media.
Your post with the embedded file will display. You can select the Play button to play it.
