What is the Online Meetings tool?
Online Meetings, powered by Zoom, allows you to schedule, host, record, and join Zoom meetings in your Canvas courses.

Online Meetings Features
Instructors can:
- Schedule individual or recurring meetings for their courses or for specific sections within their courses.
- Assign additional meeting hosts, for example, co-instructors, TAs, or guest speakers who have UVA Zoom accounts.
- Control meeting access with dates/times. Class meetings will also display on the Canvas Calendar.
- Control participants' ability to use features such as screen sharing.
- Send participants to breakout rooms for group collaboration.
- Create polls.
- Record meetings to the cloud or on their computer.
- View attendance reports for meetings.
- Create schedules for online office hours where students can book appointments for one-on-one meetings. Note: Office hours appointments do not currently display on the Canvas Calendar tool.
Meeting participants can:
- Join meetings via computer, mobile device, or telephone dial-in.
- Communicate with video, audio, and text chat.
- Screen share documents, photos, and video clips (if allowed by the meeting host).
- Use a whiteboard and annotate shared screens (if allowed by the meeting host).
