How do I upload a transcript to create captions for a file in My Media?
If you prepared a transcript to read while recording a video or audio file in English, you can use the alignment feature in My Media to automatically create a captions file from the transcript.
Note:
- The alignment feature is only available for files where the spoken language is English.
- The transcript to upload must be in plain text (.txt) file format. If you created your transcript in Microsoft Word, select Save As, then save it as a Plain Text (*.txt) file.
Go to My Media.

Select My Media from your Global Navigation Menu.

Select the file to caption.

Choose a video or audio file to caption by selecting its thumbnail or name.
Select Actions, then Caption & Enrich.

- Scroll down on the page under the media player.
- Select the Actions menu.
- Select Caption & Enrich.
Select the Alignment feature.

Under the heading Order Captions & Enrichment Services:
- Leave the default Service option, Machine, selected.
- Leave the default Source Media Language, English, selected.
- For the Feature option, select Alignment.
- Select Upload txt.
Upload the transcript txt file.

An Upload Attachment dialog will pop up. Use the + Select File button to browse for and select the transcript txt file.
Select Save.

Note: You may enter an optional Title and/or Description for the transcript file before saving it. However, information entered in these fields will not be available to viewers of the video or audio file.
Submit the alignment request.

The Upload Attachment dialog will close and you will be returned to the Order Captions & Enrichment Services form.
- For the Feature option, select Alignment again.
- Under Choose txt file, a table will display indicating the File Name, Title (if you entered one), and Uploaded At date for the transcript file that will be used.
- Select Submit.
Check the progress of your request.
- The request for alignment will display under the Existing Requests section of the page, along with its status. The initial Status will be Pending. The Status will change to Processing while the captions are being generated for your file, then Completed when the captions are available.
- A message will display under Order Captions & Enrichment Services to indicate that your request has been received.
Review and edit captions.
Once the captions are available, they should be reviewed for accuracy. You should verify that the timing of the captions correctly matches when the words are spoken in the video or audio file. Follow the steps in How do I edit captions in My Media? to review and correct any errors in the captions.
