What is the Redirect Tool?

The Redirect Tool allows instructors to create links to external web pages and make them available in the Course Navigation menu for students.

Note: Instructors may find steps to add the Redirect Tool to their course in How do I add a link to an external web page in the Course Navigation Menu? (opens new window).

Redirect Tool Features

Instructors can:

  • Link to external websites that may be commonly used as resources in a course, such as news sites, dictionaries, or other reference materials.
  • Link to documents and shared folders to allow students to collaborate and share files with their peers.

Note: Creating Redirect Tool links for pages, assignments, discussions, or other content in Canvas is not recommended. Redirect Tool links cannot be automatically updated during the process of importing content from one course site to another, so instructors will need to manually edit each Redirect Tool's link in a course where it has been imported.
