How do I hide Media Gallery from students?

Instructors and TAs can use the Hide Gallery from Students option to block student access to their course's Media Gallery.

This feature allows instructors to exercise additional control over the visibility of their Media Gallery content by restricting access to locations in which it has been specifically embedded. For example, when you create a playlist and embed it in a quiz, you can hide the gallery so students cannot view the playlist outside of the quiz.

Select Media Gallery from the Course Navigation Menu.

Note: To access the Media Gallery tool in a McIntire School of Commerce course site, select McIntire Kaltura from the Course Navigation Menu instead of Media Gallery.

Select Channel Actions, then Hide Gallery from Students.

  1. Select the three bars (Channel Actions) menu.
  2. Select Hide Gallery from Students.

How does a hidden gallery display to students?

If a student tries to access the Media Gallery tool while the gallery is hidden, the following message will be displayed: Student access to this Media Gallery is currently disabled. Please contact your instructor with any questions.

Tip: It is recommended to hide the Media Gallery link in your Course Navigation Menu. Before doing so, visit the Media Gallery page and bookmark/favorite it in your internet browser. Then, follow the steps in How do I manage Course Navigation links? (opens new window) to Disable Media Gallery.

When the Media Gallery is hidden from students, instructors can make it visible to them as follows:

  1. Select the three bars (Channel Actions) menu.
  2. Select Display Gallery to Students.

Note: If you also hid the Media Gallery link in your Course Navigation Menu, follow the steps in How do I manage Course Navigation links? (opens new window) to Enable Media Gallery.
